In this intensely personal encounter, the renowned Czech harpsichordist Zuzana Ruzickova describes how she navigated the turbulence of 20th century Europe, while forming her unique and transcendental interpretation of J.S. Bach at the same time. Surviving the Holocaust during her teenage years, Ruzickova was persecuted as a Jew and as an artist during forty years of authoritarian rule by the Czech communists. Yet she became known as ‘the Jew who brought Bach back to Germany' in some circles when she won the Munich Music Competition in 1956. Refusing to buckle despite living under constant surveillance, Ruzickova performed to the highest acclaim around the world, winning dozens of awards and competitions, while the Czech government confiscated her foreign-currency wages. She is the only person to record the complete keyboard works of JS Bach, re-released by Warner Music in 2016. Twice voted ‘Best Documentary', this inspirational film is designed for music lovers of all ages, while resonating with the rise of totalitarianism in the world today.
